In Your Own Back Yard
-
- Talk to your neighbors: Did they know that all of their “pay raise” in the last 10 years went into their employer’s group health plan premium, not into their paycheck? (see Segment 6 – Cost)
- Ask your doctor if there are equally effective, lower-cost alternatives to your treatment plan (and don’t accept an evasive answer)
- Subscribe to this blog, and post it on your social network
Political Action
- Write your state and federal representatives with these talking points
- Soaring healthcare cost is draining lifeblood from the nation, and is unsustainable
- 25% of spending is for inefficient, fragmented insurance processing
- As much as another 20% is for wasteful or non-costworthy treatments
- Cost-benefit analysis (like Oregon Health Plan 1994) can root out uncostworthy care
- Rationing (budgeting and prioritizing) is ethically and politically acceptable
- Direct Congressmen to this blog for more details
- Write letters to the editor
- Vote for leaders who understand the healthcare cost problem and commit to non-partisan solutions
